WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated 26 October
26 Oct 2026
As we approach the launch of WoW Forever, we've been reflecting on feedback we've heard on racial abilities and passive traits: Some players have expressed that some of the new racial traits feel too generic, while others have expressed concerns that some are objectively stronger than others.
In taking a final pass on these, we've prioritized racial identity, which means that some races will naturally be slightly more effective than others at certain combat roles. In some places where we had replaced role- or class-focused racials with generic ones, we're rolling those changes back. One exception to this is the weapon specialization racials, like humans' Sword Specialization or orcs' Axe Specialization. While those have a strong fantasy component to them, it is not healthy in the long run for future raid and dungeon loot tables to be evaluated through the lens of "required" weapon types.
At the same time, we're doing a tuning pass on some of the remaining passive bonuses to help ensure that they aren't skewing outcomes in a way that limits player preferences.
Racial Abilities and Traits --
- Human
- Ruthless now increases critical chance by 1% (was 2%).
- Human Spirit now increases Spirit by 10% (was 5%).
- Dwarf
- Earth Fury (2% increased critical strike damage and healing) removed.
- Added: Artisan's Precision - Increases hit chance with spells and attacks by 1%.
- Tauren
- Plainsrunning now grants 2% movement speed per stack (was 1%), for a total max increase of 60% (was 30%).
- Plainsrunning no longer increases mounted movement speed.
- Endurance no longer provides any modifiers beyond 5% increased Health (no hit chance or critical damage modifiers).
- Orc
- Savage removed (1% increased critical strike chance).
- Command re-added, increasing Warlock and Hunter pet damage by 5%.
- Skyborne
- Wind-Blessed Haste bonus reduced to 2% (was 3%).
- Read Leyline now increases Mana and Health regeneration by 50% (was 100%), with a 15-second duration. This ability cannot be used while Innervate is active, and will be replaced by Innervate as a more powerful effect.
- Using Read Leyline at a Ley Line now also grants "Attuned" for 1 hour. While Attuned, the benefit of Read Leyline is increased to 100% regeneration increase. Attuned persists through death.
- Skysight is now a 15% increased movement speed (was 10%), with a 15-second duration.
- Using Skysight at an elemental convergence now also grants "Charged" for 1 hour. While Charged, the benefit of Skysight is a 30% movement speed increase. Charged persists through death.
What it means for twinks
A final pre-launch pass on racial abilities and passive traits shifts several races back toward role- and class-focused bonuses and tones down generic stat passives. It changes race choice for twinks in every bracket, with Tauren mobility, Orc pet classes, Dwarf hit and Skyborne regeneration seeing the biggest shifts.
What changes
- Weapon specialization racials, such as Human Sword Specialization and Orc Axe Specialization, will not return.
- Human Ruthless reduced to 1% critical strike chance (was 2%). Human Spirit increased to 10% Spirit (was 5%).
- Dwarf Earth Fury (2% increased critical strike damage and healing) removed and replaced by Artisan's Precision, which gives 1% hit chance with spells and attacks.
- Tauren Plainsrunning now gives 2% movement speed per stack (was 1%), up to 60% (was 30%), but no longer affects mounted speed.
- Tauren Endurance now gives only 5% increased Health. Its hit chance and critical damage modifiers are removed.
- Orc Savage (1% critical strike chance) removed. Command re-added, increasing Warlock and Hunter pet damage by 5%.
- Skyborne Wind-Blessed Haste reduced to 2% haste (was 3%).
- Skyborne Read Leyline now gives 50% Mana and Health regeneration (was 100%) for 15 seconds and cannot be used while Innervate is active. Using it at a Ley Line grants Attuned for 1 hour, which raises the bonus back to 100%. Attuned persists through death.
- Skyborne Skysight now gives 15% movement speed (was 10%) for 15 seconds. Using it at an elemental convergence grants Charged for 1 hour, which raises the bonus to 30%. Charged persists through death.
What it could mean, bracket by bracket (our speculation)
Level 19
- With low health pools and short fights, Tauren's stacking 60% Plainsrunning could make them top flag carriers and chasers in Warsong Gulch-style objectives.
- Orc Hunters and Warlocks gain a flat pet damage edge, and pets make up a large share of damage at this level.
- Dwarf 1% hit is worth more here than at higher brackets, because hit gear is scarce in a 19 kit.
- Human's halved Ruthless and doubled Spirit nudge Humans toward healer and caster roles over burst melee.
Level 29
- Tauren with 60% Plainsrunning look strong for flag running and peeling, especially before mounts change travel speeds.
- Orc pet Hunters and Warlocks get stronger in a bracket where pets already hit hard against lightly geared targets.
- Pre-buffing Attuned and Charged before queuing could give Skyborne healers a notable regeneration and mobility edge, if the buffs carry into battlegrounds.
- Losing 2% crit damage on Dwarves slightly lowers their burst, though 1% hit still helps casters and melee short on hit gear.
Level 39
- Plainsrunning no longer boosting mounted speed narrows the Tauren advantage on open battleground maps if mounts are common here.
- Orc Hunters likely become the default race-class pick for pet-focused builds, now that both the crit passive and weapon specialization are gone.
- With Ruthless cut, Human melee lose some of their edge, and Human Spirit favors mana-hungry healers and casters.
- Skyborne healers who keep Attuned up could sustain longer in drawn-out battleground fights.
Level 49
- The Tauren health-only Endurance and the loss of critical damage modifiers mean Tauren picks will rest mainly on mobility and survivability, not damage.
- Orc's 5% pet damage favors Warlock and Hunter builds that lean heavily on their pets.
- Dwarf hit chance helps reach hit thresholds against higher-level opponents and frees up gear slots for other stats.
- Skyborne lose some haste-based damage, so their value shifts toward regeneration and mobility utility.
Level 59
- In longer, higher-gear fights, doubled Human Spirit and Skyborne's 100% Attuned regeneration could matter a lot for healer longevity.
- Tauren lose the mounted speed boost, which may limit Plainsrunning's value on large maps where mounts are standard.
- Orc becomes clearly class-specific: strong for Hunters and Warlocks, weaker for other classes now that Savage is gone.
- No weapon specialization racials means weapon choice for melee twinks will come down to item stats, not race.
